I walk to the corner where the manly men are doing construction worker things with the road. I take out my sketchbook, lean against the wall and begin drawing the men. They see me seeing them. Guy1 frowns. He begins to walk over in a manly man way. His face clearly says, What do you think you’re doing? I smile and show him the sketches. He points a grime covered glove at the page asking, Is that me? Yes, I say. So that’s my ass? Uh, yes. Nice, you got my best side. Laughs. manly laughing ha-ha-hah. He tells me nice work then walks back to Guy2 and pumps him on the shoulder, thumb points back at me and I can see he’s like, bragging. Guy2 walks up and takes a look. Apparently he likes it. The go about their thing and I do mine. / This did happen. Though it did happen last summer.
